Nurturing a love for culture: A memorable journey for Year 7

The recent trip to Mai Châu offered Year 7 pupils a meaningful break from the classroom and a chance to explore a quieter, more traditional way of life. In this peaceful valley, pupils experienced a culture deeply rooted in simplicity, community, and connection with nature.

The journey began with a cultural scavenger hunt. In small groups, pupils explored the local area, learning about daily life, farming, and traditional crafts. At a weaving village, they listened to stories from artisans. They tried weaving on a traditional loom – a hands-on experience that inspired patience, respect, and a new appreciation for craftsmanship.

As they walked through rice fields and observed rural life, pupils witnessed the close relationship between people and the land. These moments became gentle but powerful lessons in sustainability and gratitude.

One highlight was joining a folk dance session with local performers. The music, movement, and warm atmosphere created a sense of shared joy and cultural connection that left a lasting impression.

Though brief, the trip offered much more than a change of scenery. It nurtured empathy, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for tradition – quiet lessons that will stay with pupils long after they’ve returned.
