At Brighton College Vietnam, our Sixth Form (Years 12–13) offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), a globally recognised qualification. Alongside their academic studies, pupils engage with the IB CORE, which includes Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay, developing research, interdisciplinary learning, and essential life skills.

Our Subjects

Pupils are encouraged to consider their interests, future university and career choices, and their strongest IGCSE (or equivalent) results. Each pupil will be guided by the Sixth Form Team, and option choices and recommendations will be discussed with pupils prior to joining Year 12.

English A: Language and Literature

Language and Literature develops pupils’ ability to interpret, analyse, and evaluate a wide range of literary and non-literary texts. Through close reading, comparative study, and exploration of global issues, pupils examine how language shapes meaning, identity, and culture. The subject encourages them to think critically about the world around them and to express ideas with clarity, sophistication and confidence across multiple forms of writing and oral communication.

Vietnamese A: Language and Literature

Vietnamese A: Language and Literature immerses pupils in both classical and contemporary Vietnamese texts, inviting them to explore the nation’s cultural, historical, and linguistic heritage. Pupils refine their analytical writing, creative expression, and interpretive skills while engaging with diverse global and local perspectives. The subject nurtures deep cultural literacy and the ability to communicate complex ideas with nuance and precision.

English B

English B supports pupils in strengthening their fluency and accuracy in English through the study of real-world texts, thematic units, and meaningful communicative tasks. Pupils broaden their vocabulary, deepen cultural understanding, and gain the confidence to use English in academic, social, and global contexts. The subject fosters critical engagement with contemporary issues while enhancing all four language skills.

French B

French B develops pupils’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities through authentic francophone materials and relevant real-life contexts. Pupils explore cultural identity, current global issues, and the diversity of French-speaking communities. The subject promotes confident communication and a strong linguistic foundation that prepares pupils for further study or international engagement.

Mandarin B

Mandarin B develops pupils’ proficiency in Mandarin through integrated practice in character recognition, writing, speaking, and interpretation. Pupils deepen their understanding of Chinese traditions, modern society, and cultural perspectives while learning to communicate confidently in increasingly complex situations. The course nurtures cultural empathy, global awareness, and linguistic adaptability.

Spanish B

Pupils enhance their Spanish communication skills through thematic units, cultural exploration, and focused practice across all language strands.

French Ab Initio

A beginner-level subject that introduces essential French vocabulary and grammar, enabling pupils to handle everyday situations with increasing confidence and accuracy.

Spanish Ab Initio

Spanish Ab Initio offers pupils new to the language a strong foundation in Spanish through structured, practical communication tasks. Pupils develop essential vocabulary, grammatical understanding, and oral interaction skills. Cultural exploration supports a well-rounded learning experience and helps pupils use Spanish effectively in familiar contexts.

Chinese language learning background

Mandarin Ab Initio

Mandarin Ab Initio introduces pupils to the fundamentals of the language, including basic characters, pronunciation, and essential conversational phrases. Through structured practice and cultural exploration, pupils gain the confidence to communicate in simple everyday situations while developing an appreciation for the richness of Chinese culture.

Geography

The Geography subject at Brighton College Vietnam blends physical and human geography, combining scientific and socio-economic perspectives. Key topics include ergonomics, resource management, materials, and manufacturing, providing a comprehensive foundation for analysing problems and designing effective solutions.

Sports, Exercise, and Health Science

Sports, Exercise, and Health Science at Brighton College Vietnam combines academic study with practical investigations in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, psychology, and nutrition. Pupils explore physical performance, ethics, and global health issues, gaining skills and insights for further education or careers in sports, fitness, and health industries.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches focuses on rigorous mathematical thinking, abstraction, and logical proof. Pupils explore algebra, calculus, geometry, and advanced problem-solving techniques while learning to construct precise arguments. The course is well suited to pupils who enjoy theoretical mathematics and want to develop strong analytical skills.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation emphasises mathematical modelling, data analysis, and the use of mathematics to solve practical, real-world problems. Pupils work with statistics, functions, technology-based tools (e.g. graphical calculator), and applied reasoning to understand how mathematics informs decision-making in science, technology, and society.

Music

Music fosters creativity through the exploration of diverse musical forms, practices, and contexts. Pupils engage equally as performers, creators, and researchers, developing skills and critical perspectives individually and collaboratively while connecting and experimenting with various musical traditions.

Theatre Studies

Theatre Studies offers pupils opportunities to explore theatre as creators, designers, directors, and performers. Emphasising both individual and ensemble work, it nurtures creativity through inquiry, development, presentation, and reflection. Pupils engage practically, applying research and theory to their work, gaining a deeper understanding of themselves, their community, and the world through the art of theatre.

Visual Arts

The Visual Arts programme invites pupils to explore how art communicates ideas and personal insights. Guided by self-generated inquiry questions whether at Standard or Higher Level each course is built around three interconnected strands. Pupils select and define their own themes, ensuring their portfolios reflect their personal interests and creative intentions. Working in a classroom that functions as an art studio, they develop their Process Portfolio while refining their artistic, digital, and photographic skills and deepening their understanding of how meaning is created through art.

Computer Science

IB Computer Science is a dynamic, forward-looking course that equips students to understand, design, and apply technology in an increasingly digital world. Emphasising computational thinking, problem-solving, object-oriented programming, and practical skills, it also provides a solid foundation in computer systems, networks, databases, and emerging technologies such as machine learning. As part of the IB Diploma Programme’s Group 4 sciences, the course combines scientific principles with real-world application, showing how hardware, software, and data interact. Through hands-on coding, theory, and a substantial internal project, students develop the analytical, creative, and technical skills needed for university and careers in computer science, software engineering, cybersecurity, and data science, while also learning to use technology responsibly and ethically.

Preparing for University

Pupils in the Sixth Form will be supported by the Director of Futures, as well as by the Head of Sixth Form, the Head of IB, and their form tutors as they research, prepare for, and apply to universities.

When choosing IB Diploma subjects, pupils receive dedicated lesson time with the Director of Futures, and are encouraged to explore countries of interest, in addition any subject specific combinations required for particular degree courses or broader fields of interest. Our IB Fair in the Autumn term where pupils can learn more about the IB programme is also a key event for them.
As pupils progress through their Sixth Form studies, a number of events will support pupils in the higher education process, including webinars and workshops from a range of global universities, university fairs and virtual open days, along with dedicated sessions run by our Director of Futures. This support and guidance empowers pupils to match the best courses and universities for their goals and ambitions.
