Egg Race Challenge: Engineering in Action!

Egg Race Challenge: Engineering in Action!

Our Year 7 and 8 pupils on Friday took on the thrilling Egg Race Challenge, a fast-paced test of creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork! Their mission? To design and build a device, transported by an RC car, that could safely carry and deploy an egg over a set distance – without cracking under pressure!

Pupils earned points for expert driving and innovative design, but they had to navigate tricky obstacles and ensure their egg survived the journey. Every misstep resulted in deductions, pushing teams to refine their ideas through iteration, mechanics, and physics.

As Mr Simon Taylor, Head of Design and Technology, shared: “Through this activity, pupils learn about iteration and perseverance, as well as teamwork and collaboration. Ultimately, they’ve designed to solve the problem and produce an outcome that successfully transports the egg around our circuits.”

Beyond the fun and competition, this challenge sparked innovation, resilience, and hands-on learning, showing our pupils the power of design thinking and engineering in action. Well done to all our young engineers!
