Our Mandarin lessons were filled with excitement as pupils immersed themselves in the rich traditions of the Chinese Lantern Festival. Through a variety of hands-on activities, they not only strengthened their language skills but also gained a deeper appreciation for Chinese culture. From crafting intricate lanterns to participating in festive performances, the celebrations brought the spirit of the festival to life across the College.
Lantern Crafting & Design – Pupils explored the artistry of traditional lantern-making, carefully designing and decorating their own lanterns with intricate patterns and symbolic motifs. Pupils proudly showcased their handcrafted lanterns in a friendly competition, explaining the inspiration behind their designs while embracing the festival’s themes of hope and renewal.
History & Legends of the Lantern Festival – Pupils discovered the fascinating stories and traditions that have shaped this centuries-old celebration, deepening their cultural understanding. Our Mandarin lessons continue to be a dynamic space where pupils not only develop their linguistic skills but also gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture through immersive experiences.
Tangyuan Family Experience – Families came together to make tangyuan (sticky rice balls), a cherished tradition symbolising unity and completeness. This heartwarming experience not only strengthened family bonds but also deepened cultural appreciation within our community
Lantern Festival Assembly – The celebrations culminated in a vibrant Lantern Festival Assembly, where pupils took the stage to showcase their talents through music, drama, and interactive activities. From singing traditional songs that filled the hall with festive cheer to performing The “Nian Monster” Drama, which brought an ancient legend to life, and engaging in a lively Lantern Festival Quiz, the event was a joyous celebration of culture, creativity, and community spirit.
