With a mission to create a better world, since the beginning of the year Brighton College Vietnam has partnered with Animals Asia, a renowned non-profit organisation dedicated to animal protection and welfare. All funds raised from the International Fair were donated to support Animals Asia’s crucial work in protecting animals across the continent.
Founded in 1998, Animals Asia is a non-profit organisation operating in the field of animal protection. Their primary focus is on rescuing bears from the cruel practice of bile farming, where bears are kept in horrific conditions and their bile is extracted for use in traditional medicine.
The organisation’s mission extends beyond bear rescue. Animals Asia actively works to end the dog and cat meat trade, a contentious issue in many parts of Asia. They also strive to enhance animal welfare standards in zoos and sanctuaries across the region, ensuring that captive animals receive proper care and humane treatment.
The donation from parents and pupils of Brighton College Vietnam will contribute to Animals Asia’s ongoing efforts to locate, rescue, and rehabilitate over 700 bears that have been saved from the harsh living conditions of bile farms across Asia. These funds aim to provide specialised care to help the bears recover physically and psychologically, including enrichment activities and spacious, natural enclosures.
Our collaboration with Animals Asia embodies our commitment to nurturing kindness in our pupils. The early-year visit to the Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre as part of our “Be Kind to All Kinds, Not Just Mankind” Campaign, combined with fundraising initiatives throughout the International Fair, contributes to educating pupils about animal protection and instilling responsibility towards the natural world. At Brighton College Vietnam, we believe that this full-circle approach reinforces a crucial message: By demonstrating kindness as an ongoing practice, we are collectively building a more respectful and empathetic world.
