Brighton College UK was the first independent school to include entrepreneurship in the curriculum a decade ago. With the desire to spread the spirit of entrepreneurship to each pupil, helping them gain a more solid foundational understanding of business, Brighton College Vietnam has chosen Entrepreneurship as one of the core subjects in our curriculum. So how will this subject be taught at Brighton College Vietnam?
In addition to the fundamental theories shared in class by specialist teachers and industry experts, what makes Entrepreneurship at BCVN different are the practical skills and case studies in business. Pupils are also empowered to implement business ideas step by step. Through inspirational lectures from successful entrepreneurs, pupils will discuss why some businesses fail while others succeed.
The most special part of the Entrepreneurship programme is the Dragons’ Den style competition (similar to the Shark Tank show in Vietnam). Pupils split into groups to develop creative and commercial ideas and products. More than just coming up with ideas, they also need to create a feasible business plan that consists of market research, defining the goals, understanding customer insights, developing marketing plans and human resources plans…and then present them to the judges and other teams.
The judges of this competition are specialist teachers and local entrepreneurs who have their own successful businesses. By presenting their business plans, listening, and responding to the feedback provided by the judges, pupils are given opportunities to strengthen their 21st century skills and to become curious, global-looking, independent, resourceful, resilient and reflective young people. These are the qualities that BCVN wants to cultivate in each pupil.
