Bringing Fresh Perspectives: Reflections on IB Visual Arts Training in Hong Kong

The IB Visual Arts programme at Brighton College Vietnam provides pupils with a rich opportunity to explore how art expresses creative thinking, personal perspectives, and deeper reflections on the world around them.

Dedicated to delivering a dynamic and inspiring learning experience, our teaching team continually updates the curriculum, assessment criteria, and teaching approaches to align with the latest international standards. To ensure this, our teachers actively participate in global training and professional exchange programmes that enrich both their expertise and classroom practice.

Recently, Mr. Michael Cooper – Director of Visual Arts – travelled to Hong Kong to attend an IB Visual Arts training workshop. There, he joined fellow educators from around the world to exchange insights and discuss the latest developments in the IB Visual Arts curriculum.

“I have a long-standing connection with the International Baccalaureate, having taught IB Visual Arts for seven years and also serving as an IB examiner during that time. In addition, I have taught at Brighton University on the undergraduate programme, delivering sessions focused on the differences between the IB and A Levels, particularly in the context of art education. I recently had the opportunity to reconnect with the IB community through a Cat 2 Visual Arts training held at the International School of Singapore in Hong Kong.

This training was incredibly insightful, especially with the introduction of the new Visual Arts specification. It provided a comprehensive overview of the updated curriculum, assessment criteria, and best practices for delivering a successful and enriching pupil experience. The course also offered invaluable opportunities to connect with fellow IB Visual Arts educators from around the world. The exchange of ideas, resources, and planning strategies has deepened my passion for the IB and reaffirmed my commitment to fostering creative, independent, and reflective learners.

As I look ahead, I am excited to bring fresh perspectives and renewed energy to the classroom. I look forward to continuing my journey with the IB, drawing on both experience and new insights to inspire and support the next generation of visual artists.” – Mr Michael Cooper shares his experience from the trip.
