[FutureReady] University Masterclasses Recap – Days of Discovery and Inspiration

At Brighton College Vietnam, we believe that each pupil holds unique potential and passions. With a commitment to fostering a diverse learning environment where pupils can freely explore and pursue their interests, we continuously provide enriching educational opportunities.

Over the past few days, our Year 10 and 11 pupils embarked on a remarkable journey, delving into fields of higher education and career pathways alongside esteemed professors and lecturers from the University of Melbourne. Join us in reflecting on these unforgettable moments from this special event and in celebrating the beginning of an inspiring journey as our pupils prepare for their futures in higher education!

Day 1: A Journey Through AI, Global Trade, and Mathematics
“It doesn’t matter what you start with; you will make your way in progress. You may follow your passions.” – Professor Shanika Karunaseke, University of Melbourne.

Artificial Intelligence (AI): Pupils explored the swift advancements in AI, uncovering its transformative potential for the future as well as the ethical challenges that accompany its growth.

Global Supply Chains: They delved into the intricate world of global supply chains, understanding the critical role of international collaboration in tackling sustainability issues, spanning social challenges to climate change.

Modern Mathematics through Combinatorial Game Theory: Pupils had the chance to study combinatorial game theory, revealing the clever strategies hidden within seemingly simple games and offering new perspectives on applied mathematics.

Day 2: Economics, Computer Science, Biomedical Science, and Arts Management
“Encouraging pupils to pursue what they love, step out of their comfort zones, and try new things until they discover their true passion,” shared Lecturer Cody Moore from the University of Melbourne.

Economics: Pupils participated in a live auction to understand inflation and explore the profound impact of economics on areas like renewable energy and healthcare.

Computer Science: The session opened new perspectives as pupils learned how supercomputers solve practical problems, from optimizing air conditioning to designing racing cars.

Arts Management: Pupils took on the role of tour planners for a music act – choosing venues, managing budgets, and securing sponsorships – gaining insight into the blend of creativity and management in the arts.

Biomedical Science: The session allowed pupils to delve into the incredible workings of the body.
