Our Year 8 pupils recently explored the fascinating world of separation techniques through hands-on experiments. They mastered key methods such as filtration, crystallisation, distillation, and chromatography, applying them to real-world scenarios while developing a deeper understanding of purity and the roles of solutes, solvents, and solutions.
As part of the Year 8 Chemistry curriculum, this unit spanned over 20 lessons in the last semester, providing pupils with opportunities to design, conduct, and evaluate their own experiments.
These practical activities made science engaging and relatable by connecting classroom concepts to real-world challenges, such as recycling and purifying materials. Along the way, pupils gain valuable insight into how science can address environmental and industrial issues.
