At Brighton College Vietnam, we prioritise infusing excitement and engagement into learning for our youngest learners right from the start. Our goal is to kindle a love of learning for its own sake, ensuring that our pupils remain curious about the world and eager to explore any area that piques their interest.
Creating a Holistic Environment to Ignite Pupils’ Enthusiasm for Learning
Our Year 2 programme is meticulously designed to strike a balance between inspiring academics, hands-on activities, enrichment opportunities, and ample time for creative play and social interaction. This approach creates a holistic environment that ignites our pupils’ enthusiasm and passion for learning, inviting them into an endless world of discovery.
In our core academic subjects, such as SCIENCE, learning becomes an immersive experience. In a recent “Fizzy Colours” experiment, our Year 2 pupils didn’t just observe the chemical reactions of baking soda and vinegar. Instead, they predicted outcomes, analysed results, and engaged all their senses to describe the bubbling phenomena. Through hands-on experiments, they deepened their understanding of scientific concepts while also developing fine motor skills and grip strength as they learned to safely handle equipment. These experiments and activities nurture a robust scientific mindset and instill vital skills for academic success, all while keeping our young pupils active and engaged.
ART is another avenue through which our young learners dive into a world of learning joy and enchantment. Guided by references from renowned artists like Jasper Johns, our pupils explore the wonders of color theory and experiment fearlessly with different mediums, textures, and tools for creating exciting artworks. This playful voyage encourages creative risk-taking, stimulates imagination, and fosters authentic self-expression, enabling our pupils to lead vibrant, colorful lives.
Another unique element of our Key Stage 1 curriculum is DRAMA, which focuses on building confidence in performance, storytelling, and emotional intelligence. Through engaging role-playing activities, our Year 2 pupils not only practice their acting skills, but also immerse themselves in their favorite characters’ experiences, analysing emotions and reflecting on their own responses. In a recent Drama lesson led by our specialist teacher, pupils went on an enthusiastic journey alongside Superworm and his garden companions. By stepping into the shoes of different characters like Mother Toad and Wizard Lizard, they gained a deeper understanding of a range of different emotions and learned to identify and express them authentically.
Beyond the Classroom: Exploring Our Dynamic Co-curricular Programme
Beyond core subjects, Year 2 pupils enjoy a wealth of enrichment activities both within and outside the school days. Our dynamic Co-curricular programme offers over 90 activity slots per week, ensuring that every child finds their niche and cultivates their interests. From Legoland to Mindful Art, Cooking, Fun Movement, and even Quidditch, we provide an educational experience that extends beyond the classroom, embracing a holistic approach to nurturing every facet of a child’s development.
