University Connections: Year 9 exploring university-level thinking in a demo class
Our Year 9 pupils had the exciting opportunity to take part in a demo class with Fulbright University Vietnam titled “Brains, Beliefs, and Bubbles”, led by Professor Graeme, who specialises in experimental and behavioural economics. Through a hands-on and highly engaging session, pupils explored the fascinating question: What do beauty contests and financial markets have in common?
By stepping into the role of economists through a strategic game, pupils were encouraged to think carefully about how people make decisions, respond to uncertainty, and anticipate the choices of others. The session offered not only an enjoyable and memorable experience, but also a vivid introduction to how economics can help us better understand behaviour in the real world.
At Brighton College Vietnam, we value opportunities for pupils to encounter new ways of thinking beyond the usual classroom setting. Experiences such as this allow pupils to engage with big ideas, explore unfamiliar academic territory and experience the intellectual energy of higher education in a way that feels both accessible and inspiring.
