[BrightTalk Evening] Brightonians light up the stage with passionate talks

Seven bright scholars from Brighton College Vietnam took to the stage at BrightTalk Evening to deliver passionate talks on topics they care deeply about, following the format of the iconic TED Talk. From the biology of size to the ethical complexities of human decision-making, and the expectations and mysteries of our vast universe, our Brightonians explored a wide range of thought-provoking ideas.
Reflecting on the topic about Expectation, Dieu Anh, Year 8 said: “I’m really interested in this topic because it involves a lot of emotions, feelings, and complex philosophy. The idea came to me quite naturally, just by observing the world around me and reflecting on my own experiences. I began to notice how people have expectations of me, and how I form expectations of others.”
For many pupils, personal connection is what fuels their commitment. Deeply engaging with their chosen topic not only enriches the content but also sustains their enthusiasm throughout the preparation process. Patricio, Year 7, captivated by the mysteries of the cosmos, reflected on his inspiration. “I’ve been thinking and something just came to mind about the vast size of the universe – how massive it is – and how Earth is just a tiny speck of dust. As far as we know, we’re the only planet with life and perhaps our ability to question our purpose on Earth means more than what we realise.”
Held on 15th May 2025, BrightTalk Evening was a powerful platform for pupils to explore ideas that matter to them and to inspire others through insight, curiosity, and the art of public speaking.
