Not to Fear Mistakes | A Story of Creative Courage

“Collaborating with a different artistic style pushed me beyond my comfort zone. It taught me to be willing to try, not to fear mistakes. Appreciating the hard work behind a piece can deeply shape the way we see and value the artwork.”

This reflection from Tram Anh captures something quietly powerful at the centre of the IBDP Programme – the spirit of the Risk-Taker: a willingness to step beyond the familiar, to try, and to grow through uncertainty.

When Phuong An and Tram Anh began their shared painting, Echo of the Cities, they brought with them two distinctly different artistic voices. One approached the canvas with precision and careful control; the other with a freer, more instinctive energy. Rather than blending these into a single style, they chose to preserve the contrast, allowing each voice to remain visible and purposeful.

As the work unfolded, so too did their collaboration. They explored how two creative directions could exist within one composition – one shaping the scenery, the other building narrative through figures and atmosphere. Along the way, there were moments of hesitation, adjustment and quiet negotiation, each one deepening their understanding of both the artwork and one another.
In the end, Echo of the Cities becomes more than a painting. It reflects a shared journey – one where difference is embraced, and where growth begins with the courage not to fear mistakes.
