[Scholar Programme] Being a scholar allowed me to discover myself

“Being a Scholar allowed me to discover myself through pursuing the three core values: Curiosity, Confidence, and Kindness. Self-discovery may have been my biggest achievement.” – Dieu Anh

Reflecting on her early days, she recalled how challenging it was to settle in and how the teachers were there to support her. She gradually found her footing and learned that kindness doesn’t just exist; it spreads from one to another – when you receive it, you want to pass it on. “Maybe kindness wasn’t listed as a major academic objective,” she said, “but for me, it has been the most valuable lesson of all.”

Weekly enrichment sessions in the Scholar Programme encouraged Dieu Anh to explore new ideas, research independently, and share her perspectives on diverse topics. Dieu Anh admitted that she used to be terrified of public speaking, but the programme helped her realise that fear doesn’t lie in the act of speaking itself – it lies in the wall we build in our minds before we even begin. With the support of her teachers and her own determination, she grew calmer, stronger, and more assured. She stood on stage at the BrightTalk Evening, delivering a talk on “Expectation” – a topic that deeply fascinated her because it delved into emotion, self-reflection, and the complex nature of human philosophy.

“Although my journey to academic excellence still presents numerous challenges and fears, I have found joy along the way.”

For Dieu Anh, the Scholar Programme has provided a space to understand herself, nurture her passions, and grow in a well-rounded way. This truly reflects the spirit that Brighton College Vietnam aspires to – empowering every pupil to shine with confidence and become the best version of themselves.
